27 October 2009— Tuesday night was a night of celebration for hedge fund managers and other members of the financial services industry as the Hedge Fund Hotel hosted the 2nd annual Canadian Hedge Fund Awards. The event, sponsored once again by KPMG and RBC Dexia Investor Services, was held at the Thompson Landry Gallery in the historic distillery district — a beautiful venue just as unique as the funds celebrated during the evening. The award ceremony kicked off after cocktails with the winners of the Best Overall Return group; Rosalind Capital Partners LP took home that prize in the AUM under $25 million category and the PH&N Absolute Return Fund won the AUM over $25 million prize. Next up was the Best Sharpe Ratio category, CI Global Opportunities Fund C$ took home the AUM under $25 million category, while Altairis Long/Short was awarded the prize in the AUM over $25 million category. The third category, Best New Fund Performance (Best YTD 2009 Return) went to DKAM Capital Ideas Fund LP, with an amazing return of 47.30% this year. The final category recognized John Clark, Chief Executive Officer and Portfolio Manager of JCClark for his outstanding leadership in the Canadian hedge fund industry. The evening concluded with dinner and cocktails and many congratulations for all the winners. The evening also highlighted the charitable element to the annual awards ceremony; Kate Ross received the Hedge Fund Hotel bursary in 2008 to pursue a nursing degree at Trent University in Peterborough and her achievements were celebrated again this year. Kate will be entering her second year of school in 2009 with top marks (congratulations to Kate for making the Dean’s List), and we thank her for coming to the Awards once again this year.
